Originating from central north China, Jia has always dreamed of the artistic translation of life observations. After graduating from the University of Auckland, Jia started work as a lab technician. She then realized her passion could not be fulfilled from such a routine job so she started a dog grooming business in 2010. Not until seriously engaging in the creation of art, she finally found where her soul belongs. Her traditional Chinese heritage brought endless inspiration to her artworks. She loves exploring the Chinese calligraphy and seal engraving. What a pleasure to incorporate ancient literature in different calligraphy fonts into her artworks.
Although never having the chance of formal training, Jia has developed her own taste of realism and romanticism with various medium including: ink, graphite, charco, acrylic and pastel. The beauty of black and white reveals subtle changes in lighting and perspective. With appropriate layering of colors, she creates classic themes with a peaceful ambiance. Using the pastel and mixed media approach, she enjoys the dramatic color contrasts and demonstrates her ideal image of the world.
Jia is particularly interested in the traditional themes found in ancient paintings from China and Japan. The art of blank leaving and scatter perspective in Chinese traditional paintings brought a romantic atmosphere to the whole stage. The traditional line drawing method with ink and brush presents simplism without compromising the realistic appeal of figures. The Ukiyo-e style in Japan combines harmonious colors with engaging themes. The highlights of female beauty provide an elegant perspective of figurative arts. Jia is hoping to demonstrate the classic themes with modern perspective and techniques.
